The result of a massive migraine

I’ve spent a good part of my (migraine filled) day sitting and thinking about the ALP leadership debacle (clearly didn’t have much actual work to do, surprise surprise). I found myself oscillating between two points of view, both I found were represented by various media outlets and blogs throughout the day.
These view points were, to put it simply, either a morbid fascination with the ever increasing personal attacks on either leader documented on news websites in a ‘live-blog’ format, or a firm decision that this squabble was silly and a waste of time and energy that could be better spent reading about ‘real’ political issues like the unrest in Syria.
That lead me to an interesting comparison. Is the ALP Leadership spill the Kardashian divorce of the political world? It’s compelling and filled with drama, it’s like watching a car crash and you just can’t seem to look away. Everyone has an opinion on it, even if they know nothing about the circumstances surrounding the split. Both sides continuously jockeying for media attention and support. And there are critics, an ever increasing amount of critics, commenting on every move. We know we should be watching a ‘better’ or more important show, but somehow we any change the channel.
I don’t know, my migraine and pain killer infested brain is not operating that well, but if it is the Kardashian wedding of Aussie politics, I can’t wait for Aussie Politics’ take on Jersey Shore.
